Business / Financial Controller

Reliable financial information and timely steering insight, so that Green Teams Europe can grow in a financially healthy, controlled and predictable way.

About the role

Reliable financial information and timely steering insight, so that Green Teams Europe can grow in a financially healthy, controlled and predictable way.

As Business / Financial Controller you are the hands-on sparring partner of the management board, working for Green Teams Europe Group and its operating companies. The role combines financial control, business control and project control: you keep the administration and reporting sound, turn financial and operational data into concrete steering information, and independently challenge assumptions, risks and decisions.

You work closely with the finance administration, project management, service, sales, HR and external advisers. Roughly half your time goes to reporting, forecasting and business and project control; the rest to period closing, cash flow and budgets, and to internal control, systems and compliance.

What you’ll do

Financial administration & period closing

  • Manage the financial administration and, where needed, carry out, check and correct it yourself
  • Safeguard the correct processing of purchasing, sales, bank, journal entries, balance sheet files, intercompany positions and tax reconciliations
  • Coordinate and check the payroll and pension administration
  • Organise the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closings and guard the closing calendar
  • Prepare and guide audits and the annual accounts process

Business & project control

  • Analyse revenue, costs, result and cash flows per operating company, activity, client and project
  • Check pre- and post-calculations, work in progress, revenue recognition, project margins, hours, materials, subcontracting and additional work
  • Spot deviations, establish the causes and agree corrective actions with the responsible owner
  • Challenge the assumptions in quotations, budgets, investments, staffing plans and commercial or operational proposals

Planning, forecasting & liquidity

  • Draw up and manage annual budgets, rolling forecasts and scenario analyses for cash, revenue, costs and EBT
  • Monitor cash flow, liquidity, working capital, debtors, creditors and financial commitments
  • Prepare and guide financing processes and changes to banking or other facilities
  • Substantiate the financial consequences of investments, growth, new activities and strategic choices

Administrative organisation & internal control

  • Set up, document, manage and optimise the administrative organisation and internal control (AO/IB)
  • Put in place and guard segregation of duties, authorisations, four-eyes checks and control points
  • Make sure financial and operational processes are carried out demonstrably, traceably and as agreed
  • Initiate and guide improvements where processes, controls or data quality fall short

Risk, compliance & continuity

  • Manage and periodically review the insurance portfolio, and handle claims and changes
  • Coordinate legal checks and compliance matters, bringing in external advisers in good time
  • Guard IT security and business continuity from a governance, risk and process perspective
  • Flag tax, legal, financial, privacy, cyber and continuity risks and guard the follow-up

Systems, data & steering information

  • Act as key user and process owner for the financial parts of our ERP, CRM and reporting systems
  • Guard data quality, definitions, reconciliations and a single source for management information
  • Develop and improve dashboards, reports, workflows and automations that cut manual work and errors
  • Make sure the right people have understandable, reliable and actionable steering information on time

What you’re accountable for

  • An accurate, complete, timely and auditable financial administration and reporting
  • Reliable insight into result, project margins, work in progress, cost development, liquidity and financial risks
  • An up-to-date budget, rolling forecast and substantiated scenarios for cash, revenue, costs and EBT
  • A well-controlled payroll and pension administration
  • An auditable AO/IB with fitting segregation of duties, authorisations and four-eyes checks
  • Timely signalling and escalation when financial reliability, liquidity, continuity or compliance is at risk

What you decide yourself

You work independently within clear frameworks. Formal board decisions, financing and strategic choices stay with the management board; within those frameworks these calls are yours:

  • You draw up and distribute financial analyses, reports, forecasts and scenarios
  • You request the information and substantiation you need from budget holders, project leads and process owners
  • You make administrative corrections and apply control measures
  • You implement process and reporting improvements within approved frameworks
  • You coordinate external advisers and audits within an approved assignment and budget

What we’re looking for

  • HBO/WO working and thinking level (Finance & Control, Business Economics, Accountancy or similar)
  • Several years of experience as a financial or business controller, preferably in a project-driven organisation
  • Hands-on: as comfortable in the administration as at the management table
  • Strong in project control: work in progress, pre- and post-calculation and margin analysis
  • Experience with budgeting, rolling forecasts and liquidity planning
  • Knowledge of AO/IB and affinity with ERP systems, data and dashboards
  • Independent and constructively critical: you challenge assumptions and communicate clearly

What we offer

  • A broad, independent role with direct impact on the course of a growing company
  • Sparring partner of the management board, with short lines to projects, service and sales
  • Room to build and improve our finance processes, systems and reporting
  • 32 to 40 hours a week, in consultation
  • A driven team working on the energy transition
